How Much Does an Estate Plan Cost?
As you can imagine, one of the first questions people ask us about estate planning is about the cost of an estate plan. Given that there is not a "one-size fits all solution" for every family and what your plan will cost is invariably going to be different than your neighbor, I will do my best to answer.
Given the complexity of issues that are unique to each family, I would run quickly from any lawyer who can tell you exactly what your plan would cost without a comprehensive investigation of your family.
You see, that is exactly why most estate plans fail. Families shop around based on price (because they don't know any other way to shop for an estate plan), and end up spending money on a traditional plan, which is merely a set of documents that often don't work when they are needed.
In the meantime, here's what I can assure you:
We Don't Sell Documents We Create Outcomes
At the Pinney Law Firm our Baytown estate planning lawyer has balanced affordability and effectiveness in our price structure. We do far more than sell documents. We start with a planning session designed to get you more financially organized than you have ever been before, and ensure that no matter what happens, none of your hard-earned assets will be lost to the Texas Comptroler's unclaimed property fund. We then discuss your current situation so that you understand exactly where you stand. Then, if we both think its a good fit, we move on with the planning process when needed.
Even if you decide not to do planning with us, or we don't think we are a good fit for you, the planning session alone is a hugely valuable process for you and your family. In the process you create a full inventory of your assets so that you can be sure that your family knows what you have.
In our session we review the things you own and those you love, and you will understand exactly what would happen in the event of your death or incapacity. If you do not have a plan, we cover the Texas default plan. If you do, we review it with you. In either case, if you are not happy with your current situation, you tell us exactly what you would want to change, and we will look at the most effective, efficient, and affordable way to achieve those goals.
Here's the most important part for you to know: you will be making informed, educated, empowered decisions for the people you love, not just shopping around based on price. And the best part is—at our office—you actually get to choose your own fee based on your budget and the options that are most important to you and your family. There truly is no one-size fits all choice.
Our Baytown estate planning lawyer has put together this process to educate you quickly and effectively so that you are empowered to make smart choices based on what you want for your loved ones instead of simply choosing what is cheapest now.
Okay, now having said all that, and with that background in mind, you probably would like to at least know a range of what to expect:
- Our estate planning session is $300 (less than 40% of our normal fee). We make the session free, by crediting it to future work, when you do additional estate planning with us.
- All estate planning is done for a flat fee so that you know exactly what to expect and what it will cost. We don't add hidden fees or charge you when you call with questions about your plan.
- We offer three levels of planning for our comprehensive plan or updates ranging between $1500-7500 for a married couple, depending on the choices you make during our planning session. If you are single, planning is discounted from there appropriately.
